The Esperance Chamber of Commerce and Industry is proud to announce Sheldon Broughton from SEA Heavy Diesel as the winner of our September 2025 Customer Service Award.


Recognised for his outstanding leadership and dedication, Sheldon consistently goes above and beyond to keep SEA Heavy Diesel customers on the road. With expert knowledge, a can-do attitude, and a genuine passion for helping others, he delivers exceptional results and supports his team with generosity, encouragement, and care, earning the respect and appreciation of everyone around him.


From apprentice to leader

Having started his career at SEA Heavy Diesel as an apprentice eight years ago, Sheldon has steadily grown into a trusted leader. “I’ve been here since my apprenticeship,” Sheldon shared. “The biggest challenge was stepping into the managing role, but it’s gone smoothly, it’s great. I love working on trucks and with the crew we’ve got here; they’re a great bunch of people.”

His journey is a reflection of dedication, resilience, and continuous growth, qualities that set an inspiring example for others in our local workforce.


What great service means

When asked what motivates him, Sheldon didn’t hesitate:

“I’m pretty passionate about working on trucks. I just love it. For me, great customer service means the customer walks away with a smile, happy with the job, and ready to come back.”

That passion and practical approach have made Sheldon a standout in his field and a valued part of Esperance’s business community.

 

Community reflections

Ron Chambers, Director of Esperance Communications and sponsor of the Customer Service Award, shared his thoughts on what makes great service shine:

“I’ve been working in customer service for more than 35 years, and I’ve seen firsthand that great service is about more than just doing your job, it’s about genuinely caring for people and finding the best solution for them.

The people who stand out are those who go above and beyond, not just meeting expectations but anticipating what the customer needs before they even ask. It’s about building trust, being reliable, and taking pride in helping someone walk away happy. Sheldon’s approach reflects that perfectly, he’s dedicated, skilled, and focused on making sure every customer leave satisfied”.


Beyond the workshop

Outside of work, Sheldon enjoys all that Esperance life has to offer: Fishing, camping, and spending time at the beach. His approachable leadership and reliability make him not just a valued employee, but a role model for excellence in service across our community.
