Customer Service Award: Tania Hourn, Shire of Esperance - Rates Department

Congratulations to Tania Hourn for winning the September 2023 Customer Service Award, Sponsored by Esperance Metaland!

Brad Hunt (Esperance Metaland) presenting the September 2023 Customer Service Award to Tania Hourn at Shire of Esperance.

Tania was nominated for going above and beyond to help customers at a time of the year when staff in the rates department must be fielding all sorts of conversations, questions and complaints regarding their rates notices.

In the words of one happy customer: "Tania demonstrated awesome customer service today, nothing was too much trouble (even though the issue was all our fault) and she provided a fantastic solution for our family. An absolute credit to the Shire and deserves some recognition in a job that must be challenging and exasperating at times."

Tania has been with the Shire of Esperance in the Rates Department for the past 8 years and said she chose to work there because she felt needed a change from bookkeeping but still wanted to work with finance. She said that the rates team are actually here to help ratepayers and she finds it rewarding to help people with their budgets so they can pay their rates without added stress each year.

Tania is proud to be a part of the finance department team, and said this was her greatest motivator to come to work each day. The most important thing Tania feels she has learned in her role is that everyone's story is different and to never judge a book by its cover.

In her spare time, Tania loves playing squash, gardening, walking, kayaking, enjoying the beach and hanging out with family.

Thank you, Tania, for your outstanding customer service!
