January Customer Service Award winner

We’re delighted to announce Dana Fairhead as our January Customer Service Award winner, recognised for her outstanding customer service, dedication, and professionalism.


Dana has been in her role for around 18 months and has quickly become a familiar and much-loved face for many locals. What she loves most about her job is the customers themselves, the daily interactions, the friendships she’s built, and the opportunity to genuinely care for people. “I’ve made lots of new friends here”, Dana says. “I just love caring for them".


Dana’s nomination stood out for the way she consistently goes above and beyond, especially for elderly customers. Whether it’s running to collect items for someone who can’t walk into the shop or taking the time to make sure everyone leaves with a smile, her care and patience never go unnoticed. Even during busy periods, Dana remains friendly, attentive, and committed to creating a welcoming experience for everyone who walks through the door.


Originally drawn to the role because she wanted something new and had always dreamed of working in a news agency, Dana admits there was a lot to learn at first. Today, she feels confident in her work, a reflection of her dedication and pride in doing the job well.


Outside of work, Dana enjoys photography, walking her dog along the beach, and spending time in her garden. That same calm, thoughtful nature carries through into how she looks after customers every day.


What keeps her motivated to come to work is simple: “The people I see every day”, she says. “That’s the whole reason I’m here”. To Dana, great customer service means being friendly, remembering customers’ names, and knowing what they usually need. Often, she’ll have items ready before they even ask, making their visit easy and comfortable.


Some moments stay with her more than others, particularly when she learns that a regular customer is unwell or has passed away. Those experiences speak to the genuine connections she builds and the care she has for her community.


Her advice for anyone starting out in customer service is heartfelt and practical. Smile, say hello, and offer help. Sometimes people won’t ask, but a kind approach can make all the difference.


Being recognised with the January Customer Service Award came as a complete surprise to Dana: “I’m blown away”, she says. “I feel very chuffed. It gives me goosebumps. I’m very honoured”.


Dana’s kindness, consistency, and willingness to go the extra mile make her a truly deserving recipient of this award and a wonderful example of customer service in Esperance.
